The Nose 8Ball Octave is a very unique type of pedal. This is an all analog, very vintage toned, monophonic octave tracking pedal. Depending on were you are on the neck, this pedal will act differently- reacting to harmonic tones. It’s tracks notes in that old school, “lazy” way to produce it’s unique tones and sounds.
The knobs are categorized as Sub, Octave Down, Guitar Blend, and Octave Up. However, they are almost like presence knobs. The knobs will add in the ability to track that octave, but the pedal reacts to how you play your instrument and tracks differently according to where you are playing on the neck. The Sub knob is more of a Sub Fluff. Not only is it creating a 2 Octave Down note, but it’s creating a unique sound with it. The Octave Down knob sounds more like a mellow, warm bass tone. Guitar Blend does just what it says. And Octave Up adds a neat octave harmonic presence to what you are playing. Octave Up will also change across the neck. The presence and tracking will be more noticeable on higher notes, and will be fainter and act more as a presence on lower notes. The Sub acts the same way- becoming more noticeable with lower notes and having a cool effect with higher notes.
In our option, the best way to use this pedal is to leave it as is, and engage it when you want it. It’s great for lead playing, funk, and jazz. It adds body to higher notes, and really creates a new world for low note guitar riffs. Add a fuzz or overdrive in front of it, and you’ll really start to get some neat tones.
